High-bandwith Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a digital copy protection developed by Intel.
Its goal is to monitor digital high-definition video / audio transmission and to prevent the digital-copy on DVI, HDMI and DisplayPort interfaces.

◾ High-Definition Multimedia Interface is a digital audio/vidéo standard and interface. It allows compressed (or not), HDCP protected (or not) audio and video data transmission.
◾ The table below shows the differences between the existing versions.
Choosing the right HDMI cable
> Cable HDMI 1.3 (2007)
This standard is older and has less functionality. For example, it is't compatible with the 3D streams used on latest televisions, nor with Ethernet data transport.
> Cable HDMI 1.4 (2009)
This standard is compatible with the others HDMI standards. The two main new features of standard 1.4 are 3D support and Ethernet support.
> Cable HDMI 2.1 (2017)
This version proposes to increase the bandwidth allowing to transmit very important data flows up to 8K and 10K.
